because only 20% of white males voted for Joe Biden, and, well, that means, you know, the rest obviously voted for Trump, and the military is still a predominantly white male

What the evidence says 01 / RECORD

Gabbard's account attributes to Rep. Steve Cohen the claim that only 20% of white males nationally voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Exit poll analyses of 2020 voting behavior put that figure much higher: a University of Virginia Center for Politics analysis of 2020 exit poll data found 58% of white men voted for Donald Trump, meaning roughly 42% voted for Biden, not 20%. The underlying 20% figure is roughly half the actual share, so the derived inference that the military (which is disproportionately white and male) voted for Trump at a correspondingly extreme rate is not supported by the cited statistic, though white men as a group did lean Republican in 2020. Notably, Gabbard herself flags in the same exchange that she has not verified the figure independently.
