Gobekli Tepe is a Pre-Pottery Neolithic archaeological site in southeastern Turkey, about 12 km northeast of the city of Sanliurfa, per peer-reviewed research in PLOS ONE. That research dates the monumental structures to roughly 11,500 to 10,000 years before present, consistent with the claim of more than 11,000 years old. The site is famous for its massive carved T-shaped pillars and circular stone enclosures, which the Smithsonian notes predate Stonehenge by some 6,000 years and were built before metal tools or pottery. The claim's location, age, and description as complex stone structures are all supported by the sources.
