Musk claimed roughly 600,000 illegal aliens are registered to vote in New York. No such registration exists: undocumented immigrants cannot legally vote in any U.S. state or federal election, and no jurisdiction registers them to do so. The figure appears to conflate this with a 2021 New York City law, "Our City Our Vote," which would have allowed an estimated 800,000 noncitizens (legal permanent residents, green-card holders, and other work-authorized immigrants, not undocumented people) to vote only in local municipal elections. That law never took effect: a state judge blocked it in June 2022 before implementation, and New York's highest court, the Court of Appeals, permanently struck it down in March 2025, ruling the state constitution restricts voting to citizens. Fact-checkers, including PolitiFact and FactCheck.org, have found no evidence supporting claims of mass noncitizen or illegal-immigrant voter registration in New York.
