Elon Musk on climate: what the evidence says · JRE #1169
SUBJECT: CLIMATE
Not a true/false call. Every claim is logged with its sources; read the exhibits below.
I mean, I don't know any serious scientists, actually zero, literally zero, who don't think that we have quite a serious climate risk that we're facing.
What the evidence says 01 / RECORD
Multiple independent studies of the peer-reviewed climate literature and surveys of climate scientists find that roughly 97% to over 99% of publishing climate scientists agree that recent warming is human-caused and poses significant risk, a level NASA and other scientific bodies describe as an overwhelming consensus. That figure means a small minority of credentialed scientists have published dissenting or skeptical views on the severity, causes, or framing of climate risk, so the claim that "literally zero" serious scientists disagree overstates the actual unanimity, even though the consensus itself is real and very strong. The core substance of Musk's statement, that mainstream science recognizes climate change as a serious risk, is well-supported; the absolute-zero framing of dissent is an exaggeration of otherwise accurate consensus figures.
