Joe Rogan on health: what the evidence says · JRE #2198
SUBJECT: HEALTH
The short answer
Rogan states that Chris Cuomo admitted on Patrick Bet-David's show that he is now taking ivermectin. In May 2024, Chris Cuomo appeared on Patrick Bet-David's PBD Podcast and said he was taking a regular dose of ivermectin, attributing the choice to his doctor's guidance for long-COVID-related inflammation and 'brain fog' rather than for treating an active infection, and remarking that 'Rogan was right' about being unfairly criticized over the drug; Rogan's characterization of this as Cuomo 'admitting' to taking ivermectin is consistent with Cuomo's own on-camera statements.

What the evidence says 01 / RECORD
In May 2024, Chris Cuomo appeared on Patrick Bet-David's PBD Podcast and said he was taking a regular dose of ivermectin, attributing the choice to his doctor's guidance for long-COVID-related inflammation and 'brain fog' rather than for treating an active infection, and remarking that 'Rogan was right' about being unfairly criticized over the drug; Rogan's characterization of this as Cuomo 'admitting' to taking ivermectin is consistent with Cuomo's own on-camera statements. The clinical evidence on ivermectin's efficacy remains unfavorable: a 2022 systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found ivermectin did not reduce all-cause mortality, hospital length of stay, or speed viral clearance in COVID-19 patients. A 2023 phase 3 randomized, placebo-controlled trial (COVID-OUT) that followed outpatients for 10 months found ivermectin had no effect on the incidence of long COVID (hazard ratio 0.99 versus placebo), in contrast to metformin, which reduced long-COVID incidence by about 41% in the same trial. Cuomo's stated personal use of ivermectin for long-COVID symptoms is therefore not supported by the available randomized-trial evidence, even though the underlying factual claim that he said this on the PBD Podcast is accurately characterized.
