Separately, USDA data show glyphosate-tolerant soybean adoption is strongly associated with a shift to conservation and no-till farming (86% of glyphosate-tolerant soybean acreage under conservation tillage by 2006, versus 36% of conventional acreage), a practice widely credited in the agronomic literature with reducing soil erosion and improving water infiltration rather than causing the runoff and farmland destruction described. The claim that glyphosate broadly and definitively "destroys" the soil and drives farm-destroying runoff overstates a contested evidence base in which the dominant tillage-reduction pathway associated with glyphosate use is generally credited with erosion and infiltration benefits rather than harms.
