// THE CLAIM · ON TAPE
It's an ionophore, which is when we talked about COVID and zinc, it carries zinc into the cell to shut down the ability of the COVID SARS from replicating. Or any virus essentially. Well, it works with SARS and it works with influenza A and B. It works with rhinovirus and enterovirus gut viruses that you can get during summertime.

What the evidence says 01 / RECORD

Quercetin is described in the pharmacology literature as a zinc ionophore that mediates zinc influx across the plasma membrane, where zinc can inhibit viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, so the proposed mechanism against SARS-CoV-2 has a real basis. However, that support is confined to cell-culture and computational studies, and reviews note that quercetin-plus-zinc combination therapy for COVID-19 was only registered for clinical trials with no human efficacy data presented. Quercetin has shown antiviral activity against influenza A and B and against rhinovirus, but again mainly in vitro and in animal models rather than in controlled human trials. Gordon states the effect as an established fact across a broad list of viruses, which overstates evidence that remains preclinical and does not demonstrate that swallowing quercetin plus zinc shuts down these infections in people.
