What the evidence says 01 / RECORD
By the time of this 2019 conversation, PayPal had publicly cut off multiple right-wing figures and organizations, including InfoWars in September 2018, and Alex Jones later sued PayPal alleging viewpoint discrimination, confirming that ideology-linked financial deplatforming by PayPal was an active, documented pattern. Individual account closures tied to ideology and involving Mastercard (the 2018 Patreon ban of Jihad Watch's Robert Spencer, which Patreon attributed to a Mastercard instruction) and Chase Bank (2019 reports that activists including Enrique Tarrio, Joe Biggs, and Martina Markota had accounts closed without clear explanation) were widely reported at the time, but that reporting is concentrated in partisan/advocacy outlets rather than mainstream or fact-checking sources meeting this project's evidentiary bar; no rigorous primary or tier-2 source corroborating the Mastercard or Chase components could be located. The claim is therefore best characterized as partially supported: the PayPal component is well documented by a mainstream source, while the Mastercard and Chase Bank components remain unverified with a rigorous primary or tier-2 source as of this writing. Status: mixed, PayPal confirmed, Mastercard and Chase not independently verified here.
