A 2022 peer-reviewed study in the AAP journal Pediatrics mapped clinical care programs for transgender and gender-diverse youth nationally using Human Rights Campaign data, finding uneven geographic distribution with the fewest clinics per capita in the South and Midwest. Separate academic literature describes an exponential increase in referrals to pediatric gender clinics over roughly the past decade.
